- purpose -

John Doherty established Blue Dingo Productions with the expressed intention of portraying universal stories seen through Australian eyes, told with an Australian voice.

Such stories are the basis of great theatre, cinema, television and on-line content, regardless of cultural context or national boundary.

- Mission -

Australia is a complex tapestry of indigenous, immigrant and “Aussie” born communities of great diversity, woven together by a range of necessities, from the idealistic to the abhorrent.

Blue Dingo Productions’ mission is to give voice to this diversity of ‘Australian–ness’ in its exploration of universal themes.

Every culture on earth is replete with stories of protagonists prevailing over evil, achieving rags to riches, quests, voyages, comedies, tragedies, re-birth and renewal, rebellion and mystery.

We are driven by the view ‘Australian stories are simply universal stories played out in a unique cultural setting.’

These, set against a range of urban, rural, outback and supernatural backdrops are the essence of Blue Dingo Productions.

- Why Blue Dingo? -

“Blue Dingo” is a reference to Doherty’s beloved Australian Cattle Dog, ‘Banjo,’ who, after sixteen years of companionship, passed away in 2016.

As decreed by Robert Kaleski’s breed standard of 1903, the Australian Cattle Dog, colloquially known as ‘blue heeler,’ or ‘blue dog,’ must include Dingo, Australia’s indigenous dog, in their lineage.

The genesis of this unique Australian breed is many and varied, as are the origins of modern Australia.

Blue Dingo Productions (BDP) draws upon the broad cultural richness that is contemporary Australia, while acknowledging its ancient past.

The Australian Cattle Dog is renowned for independent thinking, willingness to work, toughness, sensitivity, integrity and loyalty.

The ‘blue dingos’ qualities are reflected by our corporate values.
